Urban Commons
2022
observation
Donegall Quay, Belfast BT1 3NG

The diagram illustrates diverse urban commons interpretations from the article "Urban Commons: Rethinking the City."  People's interactive activities contribute to the city's value and liveliness. Urban commons enhance the city, making it more valuable and desirable.

As part of the research for the co-library project, I picked the symbolic site of Belfast, The Big Fish (Salmon of Knowledge). The site is a hub of local leisure, attracting residents who engage in diverse activities like dog walking, jogging, cycling, and skateboarding. When weekends arrive, the area comes alive with food trucks. The scene is picturesque, with individuals enjoying their meals on benches while skateboarders swerve. This spot also appeals to tourists, with the iconic Belfast statue as a beautiful backdrop.

I visited the site on a Saturday when the environment was pleasant and lively. Observing people with diverse interests and unique ways of spending time in a particular area is always fascinating. This kind of experience can provide valuable insights into the local culture and community dynamics while imagining the abundant possibilities that the city holds.
